"The ability to influence or persuade others is a critical skill for success in today’s business environment. Having a good idea isn’t enough. You will need to "sell" it to others before it is implemented.

What you will learn in this one day highly interactive workshop:

· Identifying and then adapting to the four different communication styles

· Building trust and credibility

· Presenting benefits, not features

· Making a positive first impression (and a strong permanent last impression)

Using the DiSC Personal Profile, you will learn the differences in how people communicate, and how you can increase your influencing skills by speaking the other person’s language.

Goals/Objectives

Components involved in course:



DiSC Assessment to ascertain the various personality characteristic types in the group. This assessment enables participants to understand how and why misunderstandings can occur amongst the varying styles.

Roles Plays: The role plays in the active listening part will take approximately one hour. People work in groups of three.



Exercises in Influencing Others: The latter part of the day includes exercises in influencing others. The participants work in groups of three where real world examples are chosen as subject matter.



Outline/Table of Contents

The participants will learn:



· their personality characteristic style (through the DiSC assessment)

· ways to tailor their communication to get through to others with different personality styles

· ways to listen actively, rather than just hear and rebut where there are differing points of view




· techniques for defusing conflict

· techniques to question and engage others to tailor a substantial discussion that is focused and productive

· techniques to translate technical language to persuasive language and ’sell’ their ideas to influence others

· ways to get buy-in without having to use authority

· recognizing and dealing with power plays
